4Nice Creamy Soup with Good FlavorFeb 27, 2010
By Alisa Marie Fleming "GoDairyFree.org"
This is a purely smooth and silky soup, not a bean or veggie chunk to be found. I loved the consistency actually; it was like a light cream rather than a starchy thick soup. But, I can never leave well enough alone. I sautéed three sweet carrots in 1 teaspoon of oil, then added the soup to heat, and served it up with some chopped avocado. The combination was delightful.

The soup on its own had a wonderful taste and just the right amount of flavor in terms of heat (not too much!), spices, and salt. Nothing was over the top, and it all melded rather nicely. There was just one note that kept tasting "off" to me. It was mostly in the aftertaste, so it didn't deter me from devouring the bowl. Nonetheless, it left me curious, so I checked the ingredients and finally spotted the culprit ... cilantro paste. Yes, I am one of those cilantro supertasters who generally dislike it. Cilantro fans will find this soup spot on, but luckily, the cilantro is far enough down the ingredient list that even most "cilantro tastes like soap" people (such as me) will enjoy it.

I will purchase this soup again either for a quick lunch, or as a recipe starter ... it has great potential! Plus, I love that it is both dairy-free and soy-free.

5Best Soup Ever....Love this stuff!Mar 27, 2012
By MARYG
Funny thing is I dont like beans...or rather the texture of beans. I tried this yummy soup over 2 years ago and
it is so good I have a 8oz cup daily. The soup is puree'd with no bean texture. The black bean and mild to medium hot spice's and flavors ...with a hint of cilatro is a very satisfying soup. Think would make a great layer to the traditional 7 layer taco dip as well. Only suggestion is to slightly lower the sea salt content - although it is not nearly as high as most soups out there. Best soup ever!!

3Good flavor. Thin puree. No whole beans.Dec 08, 2013

Very thin. No beans. Just a bean puree. The flavor is nice--just enough spice to make it interesting but not hot. It's fine if you put a can of black beans in it. I will use the remaining boxes to flavor bean soup or to flavor beans and rice. It's thin for anything I would use it for so I reduce it down. My other half likes these boxes because he can drink the soup without heating it up in a pinch. W have to have items like that around in hurricane areas. Being in an opaque box makes it hard to know if it has gone bad if left in the fridge too long, but they have lasted MONTHS in my fridge with no problem at all. The Red Pepper Tomato flavor (also a puree) is great tasting too.

2not for me - the spice was just right - but otherwise more a base than a soupApr 23, 2013

This soup was kind of watery and I kept thinking it was waiting for something additional - maybe rice or corn or something. I didn't like it enough to finish a bowl of it but the spice is definitely spot on. It reminds me of the rice you get in Mexican restaurants so maybe this could be served on the side with a Mexican style entree.

5Awesome Soup!May 28, 2013
By Gryffindor
Love this soup! It's creamy and not too spicy. Add a little shredded cheese and tortilla chips and this turns into a hearty low fat meal! Also tones down the spice if you're not a spicy person. Overall though not too spicy.
